Background

This Profile Report was written within 27 months of the Education Review Office and Manurewa Central School working in Te Ara Huarau, an improvement evaluation approach used in most English Medium State and State Integrated Schools.

Context

Manurewa Central School provides education for students in Years 1 to 6 and is located in South Auckland.

Since the previous ERO review, a new principal and deputy principal have been appointed.

The school's vision is 'Ma te Kaha ka Puta te Hua' (Effort brings reward) and its values are Passion, Respect, Integrity, Diversity and Excellence.

Manurewa Central School's strategic priorities for improving outcomes for learners are to develop:

ERO and the school are working together to evaluate the development and implementation of effective teaching and a responsive curriculum to improve learners' progress and achievement.

The rationale for selecting this evaluation is to respond to students' achievement and wellbeing data and to meet whānau/parent aspirations.

The school expects to see students' growing sense of ownership and agency in their learning, including an awareness of how to improve their learning.

The school also expects students to experience a strong sense of wellbeing and inclusion.

Teacher capability will be promoted with the use of effective teaching practices embedded consistently schoolwide.

ERO's role will be to support the school in its evaluation for improvement cycle to improve outcomes for all learners.

ERO will support the school in reporting their progress to the community.
